Visitors who are in the area for several days often choose a kayak outing with us on one day, and a more wide-ranging Zodiac excursion on another. Remote Passages’ knowledgeable staff can help you plan an itinerary with several marine outings – a fun and relaxing way to discover the many marvels of Clayoquot Sound!

Our Sea Kayaking Trips:

  • run daily April to mid-October
  • move through the protected waters of Tofino harbour and nearby inlets
  • introduce the natural and cultural history of Clayoquot Sound through interpretive programs

Experience?

  • No experience necessary: a medium level of fitness is required (many of our guests are first-time paddlers)
  • Programs begin with a training session on land
  • trip is fully guided; maximum 6 guests to 1 guide

Recommended Gear

  • We provide all basic kayaking gear. For your comfort, we ask you bring the following:
    • rain jacket or windbreaker
    • long sleeved top
    • high energy snack, water/juice
    • sunglasses (on a string)
    • sunscreen
    • sun-protective hat

Rate per Person: $135 + GST

Paddle from Tofino to Meares Island, gliding through hidden inlets and past majestic forested islands. Includes a walk on Meares Island’s famous “Big Tree Trail”. Learn about Clayoquot Sound’s rainforest ecology and local history… and remember to watch for eagles and migratory birds on the mudflats at low tide!

Paddle from Tofino to the magical outer-coast islands while listening to tales of “Clayoquot Island characters”. Early evening wildlife sightings are a frequent highlight of this program. (Note: Sometimes the “Islands” is a “Sunriser” or “Sundowner”, scheduled to best accommodate tidal changes – often a good chance to watch interesting birds!)

How many people do you take on a kayak tour?

Our ratio is 6 paddlers to 1 guide for our sea kayak tours. Maximum number of paddlers departing at one time is 12 with 2 guides.

What is the youngest age that can paddle on a sea kayak tour?

Children 5 years of age and older can join our ‘For Families’ 2 ½ hour kayak paddle. Trip route is based on conditions.

What do you provide for a kayak trip?

On our day trip we provide all equipment right down to water shoes. You need only bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, water and a snack. Wear shorts or a loose fitting pant and layers up top with a wind jacket.

Can beginners join your kayaking day trips?

Yes, all our sea kayak paddles are accessible for beginners. Paddle orientation starts with a lesson and further instruction can be given on the water.

Do you provide parking?

Yes, parking can be provided for cars while space is available. The good news is the parking is free!

What is the best sea kayak paddle to join when in Tofino?

Depends on your availability. If you have 4 hours join our Clayoquot Explorer paddle. This paddle takes you to Meares Island where you can walk with your guide on the ‘Big Tree Trail’.
