About Remote Passages
Welcome to Remote Passages Marine Excursions, where adventure meets education in the heart of Tofino, on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Since 1986, we have been offering eco tours that immerse our visitors in the natural beauty of Clayoquot Sound, a vast temperate rainforest area with extensive beaches and deep fjord inlets.
We are dedicated to preserving the ecological value of this special place, striving to help visitors appreciate the coastal environment’s delicate balance. Our programs highlight the intricate connections between forest and ocean ecosystems, making each outing an educational and enjoyable experience.
The Experience

Our History
Founded
Pioneered Zodiac whale watching on the west coast as Inter-Island Excursions.
1986
Merged
Merged with Remote Passages, becoming ‘the Zodiac specialists.

Boathouse
Renovated a historic Norwegian boathouse.
1998
Covered Boat
Added a covered vessel for a small group experience.

Enhanced guest experience with an underwater microphone (hydrophone) and large format screen.

- Private dock and beach launch facilities for all programs.

- Zodiac-style rigid-hull vessels with padded seating, backrests, and fully equipped for safety.
- Covered Vessel with washroom facilities, heated cabin, and large viewing deck.
- Sea Kayaks with full fiberglass hulls, single and double cockpits, outfitted for day trips.

Our Crew
- Owners/operators Don & Kati bring over 50 years of combined experience in the travel industry, with backgrounds in Geography, Tourism, and Resource & Environmental Management.
- Marine vessel guides undergo thorough in-house training, exceeding industry standards and certified by Transport Canada.
- Sea Kayak guides meet the standards of the Sea Kayak Guides Alliance.
